When it comes to GPS sports watches, Suunto is a well-known brand that has been delivering quality products for years. One of their latest offerings, the Suunto 9 Peak Pro, aims to continue their tradition of excellence. In this review, we will dig into the features, performance, and overall user experience of the Suunto 9 Peak Pro GPS watch.
Design and Physical Features
The Suunto 9 Peak Pro follows the sleek and slim design of its predecessor, the Suunto 9 Peak. With minimal differences in physical appearance, it is difficult to distinguish between the two models at first glance. The All Black variant, which we had the opportunity to test, showcases a durable and stylish build.
Upgraded Internal Hardware and User Interface

The Suunto 9 Peak Pro boasts significant improvements under the hood. One of the standout upgrades is the new and more powerful processor, which enhances the overall speed and responsiveness of the watch. This improvement is particularly noticeable when navigating through menus and switching between different features.
The user interface has also undergone a revamp, with redesigned fonts and contrasting colors that enhance readability. The menus and data are now easier to read, which delivers a smooth and enjoyable user experience.
Enhanced Battery Life
One of the most notable improvements in the Suunto 9 Peak Pro is its impressive battery life. Unlike its predecessor, which had a battery life of only seven days, the Peak Pro offers up to 30 days in time mode and 21 days with mobile notifications and Bluetooth enabled. This extended battery life is a great for outdoor enthusiasts and athletes who require that long-lasting performance.
Additionally, the GPS battery usage has been significantly upgraded, with the Suunto 9 Peak Pro offering up to 40 hours of continuous GPS tracking in full out-of-the-box mode. Suunto provides multiple battery saving options, allowing users to optimize battery usage based on their specific needs and activities.
Advanced GPS Tracking and Satellite Connectivity
The Suunto 9 Peak Pro excels in GPS tracking, thanks to its improved chipset and the ability to connect to 32 satellites. This enhanced connectivity has delivered accurate and reliable tracking even in remote areas and densely wooded trails. The watch can simultaneously connect to four satellite systems, further improving coverage and positioning accuracy.
Extensive Sport Modes and Onboard Storage

Backlight vs. No Backlight
With 95 preloaded sport modes, the Suunto 9 Peak Pro offers a wide range of options to cater to different athletic pursuits. From popular activities like running and cycling to niche activities like paragliding and American football, there is a sport mode for every athlete. Notably, the watch introduces new modes for mermaid and snorkeling activities, allowing users to record their underwater adventures up to 10 meters deep.
SuuntoPlus – Guides and Custom Workouts
The Suunto 9 Peak Pro comes equipped with the SuuntoPlus feature, which allows users to connect apps and devices to create custom workouts based on specific goals and preferences. This feature enables the creation of detailed and personalized workouts, incorporating metrics such as heart rate, pace, speed, and distance. With SuuntoPlus, users can get new tools to manage their training or get features that allow them to get more out of their desired program.
Suunto App and Data Analysis
The Suunto app remains a reliable companion for users of the Suunto 9 Peak Pro. Conclusion: A Competent, Yet Not Class-Leading GPS Watch
Throughout our hands-on experience with the Suunto 9 Peak Pro, we found that while it delivers very well on its core functionalities, it doesn’t quite stand out in terms of innovation. Compared to other watches in its price range, such as the Coros Apex 2 and the Garmin Enduro, the Suunto 9 Peak Pro feels like it falls short in terms of advancement and overall value for money. However, it still has its strengths, particularly when it comes to battery life and durability.
We can classify the Suunto 9 Peak Pro as a solidly competent GPS watch. It offers very notable improvements in battery life, GPS tracking, and user interface compared to its predecessor. While the Suunto 9 Peak Pro excels in areas such as runtime and satellite connectivity, it lacks the same level of development and versatility seen in comparable GPS watches. Nevertheless, for users who prioritize durability, sleek design, and reliable performance, the Suunto 9 Peak Pro remains a solid choice.
