New for 2018 from Native Eyewear is the Violet Reflex lens. This new Violet Reflex technology sets itself apart from Native’s other lenses by adding unrivaled color and contrast enhancement through color-sorting filtration. The resulting high definition of the violet lens is reinforced by Native’s standard lens features, which include polarization, UV and infrared protection, decentered optics, impact-resistant, oil and water repellent coatings, and a vacuum-bonded hard coating to ensure lasting integrity.
One of the frames that received these lenses was the Native Eyewear Sightcaster. And I was able to take a pair for a test run. The Sightcaster design draws inspiration from the fishing technique of sight-casting, which is all about giving you the right tools for the pursuit of a good catch.
Lenses
The Violet Reflex lenses allow in 13% VLT. What is VLT, you ask? VLT is an acronym for Visible Light Transmittance, which is a measurement of how much visible light is allowed through the lens. Ranging on a scale of 0-100%, a lower VLT means it’s better suited to brighter/sunnier conditions, while a higher VLT is best suited to stormier or overcast conditions with less light. So this means that the Violet Reflex lenses work best in bright conditions.
The color enhanced high definition optics on the Sightcaster cut through glare on the trail allowing for clearer and deeper sight. While the violet lens will perform in a number of varying light conditions, they are best suited for moderate to bright sunlight. The pictures below are a great example of how the Violet Reflex lenses enhance color and contrast.

Frames
Native’s advanced frame technology provides a lightweight, durable, and comfortable solution that can withstand harsh conditions, including high-impact collisions and temperature extremes, see my cold running picture below. The Sightcaster frames feature a dynamic frame construction using a co-injected Rynotough castor-based resin that makes them more earth-friendly and stronger than petroleum-based alternatives.
The patented Cushinol™ grip keeps the Sightcasters in place during athletic activities, which allows for stylish sunglasses that are high performance. The frame on the Sightcaster is a full XL wrap that enables full coverage and ensures all-day comfort with a lightweight and secure fit.
