If you’re active and going lightweight is your thing, the Smith Pivlock V90 Max is a must to check out the next time you are looking for a pair of sunglasses. The Pivlock V90 Max is a frameless sunglass that is best suited for cyclists or runners. I say this because as a cyclist and runner, I constantly want protection from the sun, mud, dirt, dust, and any other thing that tends to irritate the eye while I’m on the go.
When we first started testing out the Pivlock system, we thought the arm/lens system would break within the first few times of changing out the lenses. Because of this, on the first few lens switch outs we were very cautious. After numerous lens changes and putting the Pivlock V90 Max through riding, running, hiking, we found the sunglasses to be much more durable than originally assumed.
Though we were confident with the durability of the frame, we still had in the back of our mind that they could break in a year or two and I would not want to spend over $100 for a pair of glasses that breaks in a short amount of time. We decided to talk with the friendly Smith staff and they assured us that they have tested out this hinge numerous times and reported no breakage during their battery of tests. Though this was comforting to hear, we really liked it when they said if there were any problems with the glasses or frame, you can use their lifetime warranty that comes with all their glasses to get them back into working order.
As an athlete, I like to have a pair of sunglasses that stays on my face and head while active. To assist with keeping your glasses in place, the Pivlock V90 Max comes with rubber tips on the arms to hold the arms near your ears and a flexible rubber nose piece that grips your nose and keeps the glasses from sliding around on your face. Something that is not mentioned in the product information is that these sunglasses seem to help with preventing sweat from getting into the lens. Now this may be a tad subjective, as everyone’s face is different, but I found that I had much less sweat on the lens than other sport sunglasses that I have worn.
The Smith Pivlock V90 Max fits a medium to large face and I suggest you take that to heart if you are looking for sunglasses. I consider myself to have a medium sized face as far as sunglasses go and if my face were any smaller, they would be way too big. On the other hand, if you’re noggin is on the large side, these glasses are just what the doctor ordered.
