XX2i HAWAII1 Sunglasses
We’re in the heat of summer and it’s it not only blazing hot, but also blinding bright out there. Fortunately XX2i Optics sent us some shades to check out, and we’ve put ’em through the ringer. The XX2i HAWAII1, one of their performance models, with carbon fiber frames and polarized lenses, makes for a great pair of super-lightweight sunglasses for the running trail or cycling path.
XX2i HAWAII1 Lenses
The most important component of any pair of sunglasses are the lenses, and XX2i did us right with the HAWAII1. The lenses are lightweight to help overall fit and comfort, and also polarized to provide maximum glare reduction. The clarity of these were up there with the other big name brands in the market; while to my eye a similar pair of Revo may be just ever so sharper, the XX2i HAWAII1 are certainly comparable. We also do like to remind you that polarization can do weird things when using along with electronic devices screens (namely often making them look completely black), but that’s usually a small compromise to make with any pair of sunglasses to be used when running or cycling. I did occasionally have to look under them to get a good view of my cycling computer.
XX2i HAWAII1 Fit and Function
Fit is somewhat of a personal thing when it comes to sunglasses, but to me this is where the XX2i HAWAII1 really shine. The HAWAII1 use carbon fiber material on the frame, which makes them incredibly light. I nearly forget I am wearing them on a run , and if I put them on the brim of my hat they were so light I DID forget I was wearing them several times. The nose piece is bendable and the temple arms are nicely padded, which with the weight make them among the most comfortable sunglasses I have tried. If I had any reservation, it would be the angle of the temple arms put mild pressure on my ear lobes when coupled with my cycling helmet, but for me this was not prohibitively uncomfortable. I had zero fit or comfort issues when running with the HAWAII1.
