A great hiking and trail running shoe needs grip, traction, stability, and sturdy material to keep feet protected in all types of conditions. It also doesn’t hurt if the shoe is attractive.
In my experience, the Adidas Duramo Cross X GTX W fits this profile exactly, which makes it a fantastic hiking and trail running shoe.
Adidas Duramo Cross X GTX W Summary
The Adidas Duramo Cross X GTX W is an outdoor shoe designed for hiking and/or trail running. It has GORE-TEX waterproof material, TRAXION outsoles, ADIPRENE+ cushioning, and a 10mm heel toe drop. I tested these shoes while trail running, hiking, and walking in both dry and rainy conditions. In all instances, the Adidas Duramo Cross X GTX W shoes met and even exceeded my expectations.
Adidas Duramo Cross X GTX W Function
Adidas Duramo Cross X GTX W soles are flexible and well-cushioned with full-length ADIPRENE+, which protected my feet extremely well when hiking over rocky terrain. I didn’t notice any discomfort even when stepping on sharp rocks.
The Adidas Duramo Cross X GTX W TRAXION outsoles provide great stability and traction. When running on uneven trails, I found the outsoles to be reliable enough that I was able to keep a steady foot in places where my regular running shoes tend to let my feet slip or my ankles roll.
The GORE-TEX® waterproof material provides impressive protection from rain. In one testing scenario, I tested my Adidas Duramo Cross X GTX W shoes with a four-mile trail run in the rain followed by a one-mile walk with my dog in the same conditions. My feet were perfectly dry and warm when I returned home and removed my shoes. Better yet, the Adidas Duramo Cross X GTX W shoes quickly dried and were ready for wear the following morning.
Speed on my regular running routes was an issue. My pace was consistently slower in my Adidas Duramo Cross X GTX W shoes than it is in my dedicated running shoes. I wouldn’t recommend Adidas Duramo Cross X GTX W shoes for race day as this is not the intended purpose.
Adidas Duramo Cross X GTX W Design
Adidas Duramo Cross X GTX W shoes are lightweight and have an attractive design and color. I found them to be comfortable enough to wear all day long. Adidas Duramo Cross X GTX W shoes feature unique “bungee laces” that I found very confusing to use the first time I tried them on, but after a few times, they were easy to use.
The Adidas Duramo Cross X GTX W shoes have an adjustable button in the place where a normal shoelace would tie. This button is essential to adjusting and securing the shoelaces. The first time I used the button, I kept trying to push the black button on top to adjust the laces and nothing happened. I finally figured out that I had to slide the top portion of the button forward to adjust the fit of the laces. In my opinion, the bungee is inferior to normal shoe laces. It also makes it challenging to adjust the tongue of the shoe.
Once I finally figure out how to adjust the laces, I was left wondering what to do with the excess shoelace. It just hangs out of the bungee cord unless you tuck it under the laces. While the bungee laces are unique, they’re not a particularly well-functioning feature of the shoes.
Who Adidas Duramo Cross X W GTX Is For
The Adidas Duramo Cross X GTX W shoes are for anyone who does a lot of trail running and/or hiking. Though I wouldn’t consider them a racing shoe, the Adidas Duramo Cross X GTX W lightweight and low-profile design makes them ideal for fast hiking and casual trail running.
Sizing
Adidas Duramo Cross X GTX W shoes are available in women’s sizes 5-11 and 12 and weigh 11 oz.
Colors
Adidas Duramo Cross X GTX W shoes are available in two colors schemes. I ordered the power teal, black, semi solar slime and think they’re very attractive. The other color option is black and Amazon red, a darker but more subtle color scheme.
Included In The Box
My Adidas Duramo Cross X GTX W shoes arrived in a standard-size Adidas shoe box with paper stuffed inside the shoes to keep their form. It would have been helpful if there had been instructions for the bungee laces in the box, but that was not a deal breaker.
Final Thoughts
Adidas Duramo Cross X GTX W shoes are comfortable, sturdy, and offer great traction and stability when trail running and hiking.
