Bajio Toads Sunglasses Review

There are just too many choices in the fall, from fly fishing, spin fishing, and hiking to hunting. Luckily, I don’t need to make a choice with eyewear. Throughout all my fall adventures I’ve been loving the Bajio Toads Sunglasses.

Bajio makes some excellent frames and glass. Over the years I’ve been fortunate to test out several pairs like the Rocas, Bales Beach, and Caballo frames, all of which impressed me. This fall I jumped at the chance to try out a new frame with the Toads. In addition to making high-quality eyewear, Bajio does great things for the outdoor places we all love. The company has been rooted in conservation since its beginnings, and its products reflect those values.

For me, I was searching for a great pair of do-everything sunglasses. Fall is my busiest season in the outdoors. From hunting to fishing and everything in between, I wanted a single pair of glasses that could handle it all. That’s where the Bajio Toads come in.

About the Bajio Toads

The Bajio Toads are a large-coverage frame ready for a day on the water or a stroll through town. These frames feature a full wrap designed to block out stray light. Additional light-blocking comes from a built-in sun ledge above the lenses.

The temples are traditional and narrow with comfortable flex hinges, giving the glasses a perfect fit. Rubber pads throughout the frame add to the comfort and grip, both on the nose and temples. The Toad frames come in four different colors, and I went with the Gray Rock Matte.

The lenses I picked for my Toads are the copper glass option. Copper glass lenses are tried and true for medium light conditions. They offer high contrast and perform well across a wide range of environments.

Each pair comes with a recycled case and a microfiber cloth, a small but appreciated detail.

To top off my order, I grabbed one of Bajio’s new corduroy hats in the sand flea flat brim design. Bajio has released a few cord hat designs, all featuring original artwork by their in-house artists.

Thoughts on the Bajio Toads

Once again, Bajio has knocked it out of the park with another pair of sunglasses. The Toads have joined me on all sorts of adventures this year hunting, fishing, hiking, and around town. They’ve performed beautifully in each setting.

The standout feature for me is their ability to block light. Between the full wrap that contours the face, the oversized lenses, and the sun ledge, these frames do an incredible job of eliminating stray light. For fishing, this makes all the difference. Stray light can ruin visibility when trying to spot fish. In Western trout streams, that can be the difference between a great day on the water and a great day of catching fish.

I also found the light-blocking benefits helpful in the field while hunting. In big, open areas, high contrast is critical for spotting movement. Small details like this matter: being able to pick out a flick of an ear or the shape of an animal in the distance is invaluable. It even played a role in my successful elk hunt this season.

The copper lenses are truly outstanding. They’re versatile and easy on the eyes in a wide range of light conditions. On bright, chilly mornings, they were perfect for casting jerkbaits for late-season walleyes when the low-angle light can be brutal. The copper lenses paired with the Toad’s full wrap made for the ideal combination.

Beyond performance, I have to mention Bajio’s philanthropic work. They raise funds to support the saltwater flats we fish, use sustainable materials in their products, and bring awareness to environmental issues. In a world driven by fast fashion and profit margins, I respect how Bajio continues to prioritize conservation and community.

My New Favorite Bajio Hat

Lastly, my new corduroy sand flea hat has become a favorite. The design brings back memories of my childhood fishing the California surf, catching sand fleas for bait to chase surf perch. Bajio’s artists clearly understand the connection between people and place, and I love how their apparel reflects that.
