Oakley Break Point Sunglasses Review

The Oakley Break Point Sunglasses bridge the gap between fashion and function with ease. Oakley is known for performance sunglasses and goggles. Thankfully, they have rolled out a women’s specific line up that offers the same incredible features of their performance line into a package that you can wear in more casual situations.

The Break Point Sunglasses are designed for a women’s face and feature the larger frame styling that has been popular for the last few years. What these means to you and your eyes is that they will completely block out the harmful rays from the sun, including any rays reflecting off the water and snow from below or the sides. The Break Point’s also feature hydrophilic Unobtainium® ear and nose pads that help keep the glasses in place while on the go. I won’t delve into the chemistry definitions of hydrophilic vs hydrophobic, but these plastic pads are comfortable and don’t snag on your hair or slip when on your nose when you build up some sweat. The frame of the Break Point’s feature Oakley’s stress-resistant O Matter™ frame material; the frames have been through some decent wear and tear in the past 3 months of use and have yet to show any signs of failure or give.

Oakley Break Point Sunglasses Fit

The frame and fit are great features, but how the lens performs determines the true worth of a pair of sunglasses. Oakley provides numerous frame color and lens options:

  • Polish Black with Grey lens (LT 16%, protection 3)
  • Chocolate Sin and Dark Brown Gradient lens (LT 24%, protection 2)
  • Dark Plum and Black Grey Gradient lens (LT 16%, protection 3)
  • Cosmo and G40 Black Gradient lens (LT 19%, protection 2)
  • Polished Black and Black Iridium lens (LT 10%, protection 3)
  • Chocolate Sin and Gold Iridium lens (LT 12%, protection 3)
  • Tortoise and Bronze Polarized lens (LT 15%, protection 3)
  • Polished Black and OO Grey Polarized lens (LT 19%, protection 2)

The transmission rate (also called light transmittance) is a percentage given which describes the amount or percentage of sunlight that will go through the lenses of your sunglasses and into your eyes. The higher the percentage, the clearer the lens is and the lower the percentage the more black the lens is. As you can see from the above, the Break Point’s are available in a variety of light transmittance options, with the lower the percentage the more protection they offer. No matter the transmission rate, each lens blocks 100% of UVA / UVB / UVC and harmful blue light up to 400nm. You can also splurge for polarized lenses which are available in two tones; with polarization, you reduce glare that you may experience, a big plus. Also, if you would like to get an even more customized pair of shades, you can send in your prescription and get lenses with your amount of correction. Shannon

Shannon, our fabulous female tester, takes gear testing to a new level for women. When not at work or school, she is most likely training for a marathon, climbing one of Colorado’s tallest peaks, riding her road bike, or skiing down a mountain slope. Like many women, Shannon gets cold easily, therefore, we try to test the best all weather gear to help her stay warm and dry during all day outdoor pursuits. In the warmer months, Shannon enjoys exploring the Colorado backcountry with her friends and dogs and attempts to escape for as many trail runs as her schedule allows. Shannon is a great women’s tester because she gives readers true insight into how a product may perform for an active woman.
