Roka’s tagline for these glasses and various other models in the Bourbon Collection is as follows: “Summer. Distilled. Bourbon Collection: Inspired by our favorite Summer moments and places.”

A bright and sunny Pacific Northwest Ferry crossing to Victoria, BC

I wholehearted agree. Firstly, Sunglasses define summer, quite obviously. Secondly, Bourbon speaks to a deeper vibe that is somewhat transparent yet rich in color. Furthermore, the style is classic and traditional, so it speaks to the old school guy in me. Solar Spectacles have become quite flashy and shapely over the years. These Roka Rory 2.0 Prescription Sunglasses are simple, stylish, and effective in shielding that pesky (or beautiful) sun depending on the occasion. My home state of Colorado boasts of 300+ sunny glorious days each year. Hence, I can enjoy 3 other seasons of very effective use to wear these sunglasses (in my case, at least).

Roka puts together a striking black boxed presentation. The carrying case is skinnier and the frames tuck in there nicely. The outer shipping box is more for shipping and display, as well as protection in transit. The nose pad comes assembled with the medium size pads, but there is also a small and large depending on your preference. The mediums are fine for me. Additionally, I received a nice note to boot from the fine folks at Roka.

Lenses

Let’s get into the Rory 2 details! First, polarized ultra-light nylon lenses provide a clear and distinctive hue that absorbs those brilliant rays with super efficiency. Mountain driving requires focus, and crystal clear resolution certainly goes a long way to keep me and my eyes fresh. Add in the fact that these lenses also feature lots of anti’s! Anti-scratch, anti-reflective, and anti-fog coatings to help protect and minimize glare. The active biking and running in me likes the anti-fog. If Roka hasn’t nerded out enough, there is also a hydrophobic and oleophobic coating that repels water and oil. I’m no expert, but that apparently keeps these lenses clean and smudge free. All that said, these features create for an all-inclusive package to hassle-free eyewear.

Ultra Lightweight Frames

The frames are built from an ultra lightweight TR-90 Nylon. This beats the traditional material in weight, and even adds in a bit more durability. When you completely forget about the glasses on your face, I think that’s a good thing. As light as a feather feel proves to be a solid feature when out and about.

Fit Retention System And Spring Loaded Hinges

The GEKO proprietary grips on the temple tips provide a subtle and smooth enhanced fit without any real pressure. In addition, the nose pad system is also embedded with these grips. Interchangeable nose pads are included for you to dial in a perfect fit.

The spring loaded hinges are subtle, but prevent movement. Another key point is that these custom-built spring hinges provide a better fit, retention, as well as shock absorption. No matter the exercise, these Roka Rory 2.0 have stayed put. Gone are the days of deep line imprints on the side of my head from a super tight hinge system. In addition, these grips have proven invaluable when I’m out playing. Running, biking, and soon to be enjoyed, winter sports, keep my these glasses properly seated on my face.

Performance Of The Roka Rory 2.0 Sunglasses

To begin with, what I absolutely love about these Roka Rory 2.0 Sunglasses is the Prescription option. Now, that in its own right isn’t unique to Roka, but doing it correctly does require the support and manufacturing capabilities. By and large, I need glasses or contacts to properly see. Similarly to many of my active and fellow multi-sport athletes, that can present a real problem. However, my eyes are quite sensitive to contacts, so I usually rely on my glasses to get me by. That does present an issue when its sunny, super hot, and when the sweat starts flowing. My day to day regular spectacles do not have all the features that these Roka Rory 2.0 have. Maybe, it’s time to get a pair of clear ones for every day use.

Running for me is so easy to do most days. Up and out the door with minimal effort. Many times, I simply wear my daily glasses. However, the sun is just too intense and prominent most days here in Denver. For this reason, I am enjoying my Roka’s. I haven’t gotten to the point to where I am doing super fast sprint intervals which may produce more bounce. However, the mileage and distance put on wearing these prescription sunglasses is steadily adding up.

From a style standpoint, I haven’t quite decided if these fit my face perfectly. In either case, that it is a secondary factor for me. I’m all about the functionality, and thus far, I have not been disappointed. As the miles tick by, I really don’t notice that I’m wearing these sunglasses.

Without a doubt, these Roka Rory 2.0 prescription sunglasses serve its purpose while running and biking. However, I do have these stashed in my car glove box to provide me with that same sun protection while driving. The calming hue is amazing as it allows me to keep my focus. I’d say, that is as much of a storyline as any. I’ve driven anywhere from one to three hours with these glasses on, and the comfort and clarity is second to none.

Above all, the clarity of the lenses, the hue of the ‘Bourbon’ color, and the sun protection hits the mark. Every time I put these on, my eyes have this immediate sense of cool and calmness come over them. It’s like putting on your favorite pair of slippers.

Final Clear Thoughts On The Roka Rory 2.0 Sunglasses

The Roka Rory 2.0 Prescription Sunglasses hit the mark for me in a variety of ways. They are lightweight, stylish, fit very comfortably, and have features that help set them apart from others. The price is competitive, I’d say, with other brand offerings I’m seeing. You can surely add various layers of lens protection etc., but the value is there with a higher quality lens and frame. Shop for your own personal favorite as they do have numerous styles in this Bourbon collection. For more information, please visit www.roka.com.
