KUIU Yukon Pro Gloves
As someone who spends a lot of time outdoors in cold and wet conditions, I’m always on the lookout for high-quality cold weather gear. This winter, I had the chance to test out the KUIU Yukon Pro Glove, which is the lightest insulated glove in KUIU’s lineup.
Over the last decade, KUIU has established itself as a leading innovator of outdoor gear. Catering to hunters, backpackers, guides, and DIYers, KUIU has been building bombproof apparel that is designed to withstand the toughest outdoor conditions. Their mission of Never Cold, Never Leave Camp Without, and Never Mediocre is reflected in the quality of their gear. Last summer, I had the opportunity to test out some of their warm weather apparel, and I was thoroughly impressed. This winter I jumped at the opportunity to try out some of their cold weather gear with the KUIU Yukon Pro Gloves.
Initial Thoughts
Despite its slim design and lightweight construction (4.6 ounces per pair), the Yukon Pro Glove is surprisingly warm and versatile, making it a great choice for a variety of cool weather activities. While it’s less than half the Primaloft Gold insulation of KUIU’s other gloves, it’s concentrated around the palm of the glove, which is where I tend to need the most warmth. The insulation is also kept dry by the HDRY Waterproof membrane, which is essential for keeping hands warm and comfortable in wet conditions.

The outside of the glove is made from Primaflex, a flexible material with a bit of stretch to it, while the palm side of the glove uses Pittards Oiltac Leather for added grip in cold, wet conditions. The interior is lined with a hybrid wool blend that adds extra warmth and comfort. Overall, the Yukon Pro Glove is designed for wet cool conditions when temperatures are not expected to be extreme.

Testing the KUIU Yukon Gloves
I’ve used the Yukon Pro Glove for a variety of activities, including ice fishing, skiing, and hiking, and I’ve been impressed with its performance in all conditions. The fit is great for my hands. I’ve been using a size large, which allows for great movement without much bulk. The gloves are perfect for holding ski poles, trekking poles, and binoculars, and they offer decent dexterity for most tasks. I anticipate these gloves joining in on my elk hunting season next fall as well.
Cool to Cold
I’ve found that the Yukon Pro Glove performs well in temperatures from the upper 20s to the low 40s. They’re perfect for winter sports like skiing and hiking. The wool blend liners are soft and comfortable, making them a great choice for cold long hikes during hunting season or a ski outing. I’ve also used them on frigid, windy nights while ice fishing in Wyoming, and my hands remained warm and comfortable even in single-digit temperatures.

Ice Fishing
One thing to note is that the Yukon Pro Glove may not be suitable for individuals with poor circulation in their hands or for those who tend to get cold easily. Although the gloves worked great for me in the worst conditions, my hands tend to run quite warm. Someone with cold hands may need a more heavily insulated glove for extreme cold like the KUIU Kenai Glove or Expedition Glove.
One of the standout features of the Yukon Pro Glove is the slim profile of the cuff, which is designed to fit under the sleeves of a jacket. This prevented snow and cold air from making its way in, which was especially helpful during windy outings. The Pittards Oiltac Leather palms and fingers also provide excellent grip even when wet, which is crucial for winter sports and activities that require grip and fine motor movements.

Skiing
One Challenge
The only challenge I’ve experienced with the KUIU Yukon Pro Glove is getting my hands back in when they’re wet. This primarily happens when I’m fishing and need to handle a fish. This requires me to take off the gloves and wash my hands in the water. However, this is more of an issue with the perfect fit of the gloves, and is not a major concern for activities where the gloves remain on and the hands are dry.
