Jefflo Mitt from Vermont Glove

With over a century of experience in glove making, it was time for me to try out Vermont Gloves. This winter, I’ve been skiing, fishing, and shoveling snow in their Jefflo Mitt.

Vermont Gloves boasts a century-long history and crafts all their products in-house in Randolf, Vermont. Starting from their goats in the pasture, each glove undergoes a meticulous process by skilled local workers, ensuring top-notch, handcrafted quality without any shortcuts.

Named after two cherished members of the Randolf community, Jeff and Flo Tolbert, this mitten is designed with a passion for the outdoors and a sense of adventure in mind.

About the Jefflo Mitt

The Jefflo Mitt by Vermont Gloves is crafted using premium goat leather, renowned for its softness and durability owing to its natural oils. Handmade at the Randolf Vermont Glove Factory, each mitt comprises 24 distinct leather pieces, each with its unique properties, contributing to the exceptional quality of the final product. Craftsmanship and superior quality define the essence of Vermont Gloves.

Designed to conquer deep snow, the Jefflo Mitt is tailored for warmth and resilience. Notably comfortable, the mittens feature outward seams and heavy-duty nylon stitching, double-stitched around the fingers.

Goat Leather Construction

Inside the leather shell lies a polyester liner, designed for softness and quick drying which is a practical addition enhancing comfort.

The standout feature of the Jefflo Mitt is its oversized cuffs crafted from waxed canvas. These cuffs effortlessly slide over jackets, creating a snow barrier. The canvas cuffs are equipped with a cinch to secure the glove firmly in place.

Thoughts on the Jefflo Mitt

Throughout this winter, the Jefflo Mitts have been my constant companions during ski outings, ice fishing expeditions, leisurely winter walks, and driveway shoveling sessions. These gloves have become my go-to choice for various reasons that make them versatile and reliable.

Comfort is where these gloves truly excel. Vermont Gloves’ printable sizing chart ensures an accurate fit, a boon for those, like me, often caught between sizes. This attention to sizing demonstrates the company’s commitment to ensuring customers get the best fit possible. Moreover, the goat leather material sets these gloves apart. Unlike stiff traditional leather, the pliable and soft nature of goat leather makes tasks like handling ski poles, shovels, binoculars, or fishing rods effortless.

Hands Toasty and Warm

An unexpected comfort feature I appreciated was the placement of the seams on the outside. This thoughtful design ensures the seams go unnoticed, enhancing overall comfort during extended wear.

The polyester liner gloves are exceptionally comfortable and manage dampness well. Even when slightly damp, they retain warmth effectively and dry swiftly.

Ice Fishing

What truly won me over with the Jefflo Mitts was the inclusion of canvas cuffs. These cuffs effectively keep snow at bay, an essential when navigating deep powder during skiing trips.

One Challenge

However, while the cuff design is functional, I found it slightly challenging to fit over bulkier ski jackets. This might be less of an issue with more form-fitting ski attire or for longer periods of continuous wear. Considering my need to frequently remove and wear the mittens while skiing with my kids, a glove like the Jeezum or Tuttle, designed to fit under a jacket, might be a preferable option.

Nevertheless, the Jefflo Mitts boast remarkable warmth, keeping my hands toasty even in temperatures as low as zero degrees Fahrenheit. Their insulation makes them a reliable choice for the coldest conditions without any hesitation.
