The Eddie Bauer First Ascent Maximus series is a nice addition to travel collections for the outdoor enthusiast. The bag was designed for those that want the versatility of being able to carry the bag like a normal piece of luggage and having the option to carry it on your back like a backpack. We tested out the Maximus 80 and the bag came in handy during camping trips and other outdoor adventures where we wanted to keep all our of gear in one place. We used the backpack version a few times and it did it’s job, but it is not something that we would want to take on a backpacking trip. We found the compression straps to be nice for when we needed to strap down our gear and with the Maxiumus’ heavy duty fabric, we found the bag to hold up well. With a price tag of $99, we found the Maximus 80 to be a little pricey, but if you are looking for justification to buy one, we feel this bag will will last 10+ years.
