Lilypond is another local company here in Colorado that is doing great things. Located in Denver, Lilypond offers high-quality, sustainable women’s bags and travel accessories for busy professionals, on-the-go athletes, and active moms. The foundation of their business is built on sustainability through their dedicated use of recycled materials and fabrics. Their fashionable products are constructed using Lilypond’s signature CYCLEPOND™ fabric, which is created using recycled post-consumer PET water bottles to help reduce landfill waste.
I recently had the opportunity to test out the Lilypond Sundown Travel Bag and was impressed with its quality and utility. I used it on a number of occasions, and for a number of uses…overnight bag for a weekend trip, diaper bag for a day trip with our young daughter, and gym bag for my yoga classes…and it worked very well for each use. Its numerous zippered pockets help to keep things organized and easily accessible, and the main compartment is sized to handle both smaller loads and large. And the should strap is comfortable, even under heavier loads.
The Lilypond Sundown Travel Bag is loaded with features, which include multiple pockets for organized storage, Yoga mat straps, an adjustable and removable padded shoulder strap, and nice little touches like two clips for keys so you don’t lose them in the bottom of the bag. Inside the main bag compartment, their is one large zippered pocket on one side and two smaller zippered pockets on the other. The main compartment has a zipper at the top that runs the length of the bag. For this unique bag design, the zipper actually passes over the handle, leaving two small open holes for the hand grip. While these openings may allow small stuff to fall out if the bag gets tossed around in a trunk, it also allows a little bit of airflow into the bag to help keep it from getting musty. On the outer walls of the bag, there are three more zippered pockets. One side has a large pocket and the other side has two smaller pockets. Additionally, the Lilypond bag also has a mesh pocket at one end that is great for sweaty shoes or a wet swimsuit or towel. The lining of this mesh pocket is actually quite large and pushes into the main interior compartment as much or as little as you may need. This offers some nice versatility on its use.
The size of the Lilypond Sundown is pretty average for a bag in this category, and seems just about perfect for a trip to the gym or short weekend trip. It is 24” long, 10” wide, and 13” tall. The Sundown comes in three color schemes: Nightfall (Gray with orange-ish piping), Brownstone (Light brown with orange-ish piping), and Sky (Light blue with greenish-yellow piping). At a retail price of $99, the bag is probably a little above average, but seems to be well in line with other similar niche and fashionable bags that we are seeing come from fun and eco-responsible companies like Lilypond. This bag, and others in the Lilypond line are definitely worth checking out if you are looking for bags that have high utility, are eco-friendly, and look great.
